After obtaining a residence permit, students who meet the following conditions in Taiwan are required to enroll in the National Health Insurance program:

  1. Eligibility after six (6) consecutive months of residence
The eligibility calculation starts from the first day the residence permit is issued.
    Example:
    – Residence permit issued on September 1 → Eligible to enroll on March 1 of the following year
  2. One departure from Taiwan not exceeding 30 days
The days spent outside Taiwan may be deducted and combined with the actual period of residence.
Enrollment is permitted once the total actual residence period reaches six (6) months.
    Example:
    – Residence permit issued on September 1
    – Departure for 30 days
    – Eligible to enroll on March 30 of the following year
  3. Two or more departures, or a single departure exceeding 30 days
The six-month residence period must be recalculated starting from the date of re-entry into Taiwan.
    Example:
    – Residence permit issued on September 1
    – Departure from January 1 to January 31 of the following year (31 days)
    – Eligibility must be recalculated starting from the date of re-entry
