|Program Feature
The PGS emphasizes the interplay between politics and economics in contemporary societies, prioritizing social science and public policy challenges that benefit from an interdisciplinary approach. This framework builds students’ understanding of modern analytical tools in political economy.
Students will evaluate various, often conflicting, theories regarding individual and collective mindset, the relationship between markets and the state, and the influence of institutions and incentives on human actions. They will also explore how scholars have addressed significant themes such as democratization, economic development and underdevelopment, international economic institutions, and the effects of globalization.
The PGS helps students explore issues via multiple forms of thought and media of expression, including literature, music, film, and feature writing. This multidisciplinary approach highlights the diverse intellectual spaces where special topics like immigrant debate are being examined today. By doing so, it fosters an understanding of how identities are interconnected across fields as varied as Asian diaspora studies, European speculative literature, technological innovation, and international festivals.
The PGS provides students with the necessary background and knowledge to formulate projects and marketing strategies of a global scope. Students will be exposed to a diversity of case studies and methodological frameworks, introduced to the basic skills needed to effectively participate in enterprises, and to understand the ethics of global service, practice and consequent duties.
The PGS program introduces students to a wide array of social science concepts essential for understanding sustainability. Key topics include human rights, social justice, global health, and environmental ecology. Students will learn to integrate personal reflection with heightened awareness of the ideas, feelings, and concerns of others, empowering them to develop visions for their affiliated groups or organizations in dynamic contexts. The ultimate goal is to articulate a vision for a thriving and healthy community.
